Nonnewaug boys stay unbeaten after tough win over Gilbert

The Nonnewaug boys basketball team remains unbeaten at 9-0, 8-0 in the Berkshire League, but it took a tough 49-41 home win over Gilbert on Friday night to keep the winning streak going. Fouls were a theme in the game where 37 were committed between the two teams. The teams also combined for 30 turnovers. Both teams showed plenty of tenacity and heart throughout the game.
Pat Potter led Nonnewaug with 17 points, including a critical 3-pointer that gave the Chiefs a 41-36 lead in the fourth quarter. Ben Timme added 13 points and Dylan Martland chipped in 10. Both were saddled with foul trouble early in the game and in the second half.
Gilbert's Robert Skinner fouled out after scoring 10 points. Austin Brochu led the Yellowjackets (7-3, 7-2) with 13 points and 17 rebounds, but the visitors were heavily outrebounded by the homestanding Chiefs.
