Torrington girls basketball team looks to make it eight straight wins tonight

The Torrington Lady Raiders look to make it eight straight wins in a tough Naugatuck Valley League game tonight against Brass Division foe Ansonia. Game time is 7. 
Both teams have winning streaks on the line. The Chargers come in having won their last five in a row.

Here’s a quick breakdown of each team:

TORRINGTON
10-2
WINS = Wilby (L), Naugatuck (L), Kennedy (L), Crosby (L), Seymour (M), Sacred Heart (M), Wilby (L), Naugatuck (L), Woodland (M), Watertown (L)
LOSSES = Holy Cross (LL), Lauralton Hall (LL)
The Lady Raiders are coming off of a 48-31 road win over Watertown. Nicole Kozlak hit 6 3-pointers in the game and led THS with 20 points. Caycee Williams put in 13 points while Aly Otis added 11. The Lady Raiders have won seven straight since a Dec. 19 home loss to Lauralton Hall of Milford. Lauralton Hall is ranked third in the state in the latest New Haven Register Top 10 poll. THS’s other loss was at Holy Cross on Dec. 13. The Crusaders are ranked fifth in the Register’s Top 10 and were undefeated until last night’s 60-52 home loss to sixth-ranked Mercy of Middletown.
Torrington is led by Otis, who averages 14.5 points per game. Williams averages 10.4 per game. Kozlak is third on the team at 7.6 per contest.
 
ANSONIA
9-2
WINS = St. Paul Catholic (M), Watertown (L), Seymour (M), Derby (S), Oxford (S), Kennedy (L), St. Paul Catholic (M), Wilby (L), Crosby (L)
LOSSES = Wolcott (M), Woodland (M)
The Chargers defeated Crosby 51-14 at home last Friday. Ansonia’s last loss was a Dec. 27 road loss to Woodland. Melissa Tirella leads the Chargers in scoring at 14.7 points per game, according to statistics posted on MaxPreps.com. Tierney Lawlor is second on the team in scoring at 12.8 per contest.
