Torrington girls give up 10 3-pointers, but win eighth straight game

KEVIN D. ROBERTS/Register Citizen
The Torrington girls basketball team topped Ansonia 79-59 in Naugatuck Valley League action at the Connie Donahue Gymnasium on Tuesday night, but not without giving up plenty of outside shots to the Chargers.
Ansonia knocked down 10 treys in the game. Melissa Tirella had five 3-pointers while Tierney Lawlor made four. Both scored 23 points for the Chargers (9-3 overall, 8-3 NVL).
Lady Raiders head coach Mike Fritch was not thrilled with his team's defense and will be expecting a better effort on Friday night in Bristol when they play St. Paul Catholic.
Torrington (11-2, 11-1 NVL) hit seven 3s on the night, led by Nicole Kozlak (16 points, 4 treys, 8 assists). Mariah Cerruto added 14 points and 3 3-pointers. Aly Otis led the Raiders overall with 25 points. Caycee Williams added 12 points, 17 rebounds and three blocks.
