Torrington girls set for NVL rematch against Holy Cross at home

The Torrington girls put their 11-game winning streak on the line tonight at 7 at the Connie Donahue Gymnasium against Holy Cross in a battle of the Naugatuck Valley League's top two teams. The Crusaders own a 65-46 victory over the Lady Raiders in a Dec. 13 game played in Waterbury. Holy Cross (15-1 overall, 15-0 NVL) raced out to a 19-2 lead after one quarter. Torrington (14-2, 14-1) did play the home team relatively even the rest of the game, but the large deficit was too much to overcome. Aly Otis didn't enter the game until the second quarter because she took a ball off of her head during warm-ups. The senior forward had also banged her head in practice the Monday before the game. Raiders head coach Mike Fritch held Otis out as a precaution.
Torrington must avoid another slow start in order to stay with Holy Cross, which has only lost to Mercy of Middletown this season. Mercy has been in the New Haven Register's Top 10 poll all season.
The Crusaders are led by Briana Bradford, Danielle Dorsett, Angelica Ariola and Kiera O'Donnell.
I will be sending out tweets live from the Connie Donahue Gymnasium. Check @kroberts023 for updates.
