Make it 10 straight wins for the Torrington girls

KEVIN D. ROBERTS/Register Citizen
Torrington girls head coach Mike Fritch used Tuesday night's game against winless Derby as a chance to get all of his players involved. Ten of the 15 Lady Raiders scored in an easy 65-30 Naugatuck Valley League win at the Connie Donahue Gymnasium. Torrington improved to 13-2 overall (13-1 NVL) with the win.
Contributions came from all over. Megan Calabrese, Dia O'Brien, Emily Eanniello and Mollie Bartles started for THS. Caroline Teti was the only regular starter in the starting lineup.
Aly Otis played less than two quarters, yet still led the team with 20 points (6 rebounds, 2 blocks). Calabrese had a solid night with 11 points, 7 rebounds and a block. Bartles was second on the team with four assists. Senior center Caycee Williams had 8 points, 4 steals and led the team with 6 assists. Eaniello had five rebounds. O'Brien contributed 4 points, 4 rebounds and 3 blocks. Mika Howard had 6 points off the bench.
Derby was led by sophomore Shebly Mendillo, who had 17 points. Derby (0-14) had just 12 players in its program to start the season, according to a preview in the New Haven Register. Ten of their players are either freshmen or sophomores. Derby started two seniors, two sophomores and a freshman on Tuesday.
