The Gilbert boys basketball team kept its quest for a Berkshire League title going with a 75-57 win at Wamogo on Tuesday night. Junior guard Robert Skinner had a huge night with 34 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the Yellowjackets. Senior center Austin Brochu added 22 points, 15 rebounds and 6 blocks. Gilbert (14-4, 13-3 BL) hit seven 3-pointers and dished out 20 assists as a team. The Yellowjackets are a game behind first place Northwestern (13-2) in the loss column.
"We just have no answer for that, when they shoot that well and have that presence inside," Warriors head coach Gregg Hunt said after the game.
Nick Nemergut led Wamogo (7-10, 6-9 BL) with 20 points while Mark Csehak added 13. The Warriors still need one more win to clinch berths in Class S state and Berkshire League tournaments. Wamogo faces Northwestern Thursday in Winsted, then takes on a red-hot Terryville team Monday before squaring off with Thomaston on Wednesday.
"There’s no easy games on our schedule," Hunt said. "It’s going to be an uphill battle all the way to get that [eighth win]."
